Golf Golfing Golfer

Golf? Golfing? Golfers? Who Cares? How rude am I? seriously though I remember growing up and when golf was mentioned or I accidentally switched to a television channel that was showing golf I had a physical shiver that urged me to stop listening or watching or at the very least run into a wall. So what has changed? Not the game, not the player types as I presume golf had it's fair share of golfing characters over the years so why the popularity now? Why Golf is So Popular It is probably obvious to most, media is the reason. The ability for the media to evaluate what the public want to see then research it and deliver a great product has definitely caused the surge in golfing. Also least we forget every Tom, Dick and Harry or Mary for that matter, owns at least one cell phone that takes not only photos but videos as well. Capturing great moments in golf by the by-standers has never been easier with these miniature media systems. The cell phone's ability to almost immediately upload it's contents to the internet to be viewed by millions is possibly a catalyst to many past sports that have been thought of as boring but no longer. Characters in Golf. Who hasn't watched the 'Shark' and waited for him to choke. It has happened often but does not take away from his great golf and off screen interest he supplies. Then there is the newbie, the 'Tiger'. What a golfer. He is a true aficionado of golf. It shows us all what dedication to a sport can help us achieve. So finally to answer my initial question, 'Golf? Golfing? Golfers? Who Cares?' Then it seems to me the answer is emphatically, 'YES' millions do. |
