A Secret Hand Cleaning Recipe

By Brian Gill

Growing up in the seventies and having a keen interest in cars, especially repairs and maintenance on them, I would, without fail, return into our house, when I had finished for the day, all covered in dirty, oily, greasy hands. (Actually I was covered head to foot in dirt from working on the cars). I loved it!

Now, when I was living with my parents and working on my cars, or wrecks, like they affectionately called them, my Dad gave me a little trick I would use for the rest of my life in my clean up regime. It was a godsend as any mechanic will attest to if they are lucky enough to know about this and have tried it.

Water is the main ingredient but the next ingredient would never have been guessed to work. Why? Well it would be similar to telling someone to have "wasabie (horse radish)" with their bananas. It just would not work and would sound absurd. So what is this special ingredient?

Every household will have it on hand and in the past it was quite expensive to buy but now it is very inexpensive as it is used daily by most. I will not actually tell you what it is as it is so good I think you should have to work a little to find out what this special ingredient is. So here are some clues to help.

The special ingredient comes from a cow. We spread it on our toast and bread and it will magically appear if we beat cream too much. It also starts with the letter "B" and ends in "R".

Too easy. Also margarine works almost as good if you have none available. The trick is, and this is important, do not put your hands under water until you have placed a good size blob of butter on them and massaged it into your hands. Now add a little detergent and mix this with the buttery, oily mess on your hands then rinse it all off under warm water. As if by magic the oil and grease will be gone. If you do not get oil and grease on your hands it is worth getting some and trying this. It really does work like magic.
